ANNOUNCEMENTS

Thursday, July 27

As you're revising, make sure that you're carefully documenting your sources and preparing an accurate works cited pages. Here are the handouts we went over in class: Works Cited and In-text Citation. Other examples and guides can be accessed at any number of sites (the Nuts and Bolts site is a good one); I have a list under documentation over to your left. And, as always, if you have questions, feel free to shoot me an email. Monday: come with your finished essay and works cited page for our very last meeting together.

Tuesday, July 25

Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of this week, we'll be meeting in small groups, instead of as a whole class. Check the schedule for the day and time of your meeting. Make sure you've responded to your group members' essays using this guide.

Tuesday, July 18

Presentations begin today. Your responsibilities this week include coming (ON TIME!) and participating in your classmates' presentations and beginning to draft your essay. Here's the assignment sheet.

Friday, July 14

Research reports are due in my inbox BEFORE 8:40 Tuesday morning; please email them as Word attachments. No regular class meeting on Monday; presentations begin on Tuesday. If you haven't signed up for a presentation slot, you should do so by emailing me.

Wednesday, July 12

The guide to online research I promised can be found here. Don't forget to read the handouts on paraphrasing, summarizing, and quoting I have linked on the schedule.

Tuesday, July 11

Decide on topics by tomorrow (post your selection to the blog). Check out our list of brainstormed topics here.

Thursday, July 7

Tomorrow we'll turn in our essays and response ads together as a class. You should have access to both your finished essay and your image when you come to class; we'll spend some time editing our drafts for mechanical errors and careless mistakes, and then we'll walk together through the process of saving and sending, to make sure everyone gets everything submitted on time.

Thursday, June 29

Here's Kelly's essay with my comments that we discussed in class today. Tomorrow, we talk (and create) images; see here for the updated part of that assignment. We'll also decide on peer review groups for the weekend.

Monday, June 26

Today we begin our new unit, Analyzing Advertisements. Start looking around for an ad that interests you; you'll need to choose one pretty quickly so we can get started drafting.

Tuesday, June 20

Tomorrow, you should have a draft complete enough to be reviewed by your peers. Have access to it in Microsoft Word.

Friday, June 16

As promised, here's a guide to drafting your first essay. First draft is due Monday.

Thursday, June 15

Make sure to check today's homework assignment; I changed it to reflect what we discussed in class: no reading tonight, but you should all have an example of media to discuss tomorrow and at least the beginnings of a list of media you consume.

Extra: Check the blog for links to articles about William Jefferson and the Duke lacrosse case, if you're interested.

Monday, June 12

Welcome to English 1002, section 4. Here is the place where you will find most everything you need for the course, so take some time to look around. Links to our class information are listed on the left; I'll add to them frequently. I will post announcements and due dates here in this column, so you should get used to checking this page frequently.
