*UPDATE ON THE MULTIMEDIA COMPONENT OF THIS
ASSIGNMENT* PART TWO OF YOUR AD ANALYSIS ASSIGNMENT: TALKING BACK All of the advertisements you are analyzing use images AND words to get their message across. So, it seems only fair that we would get to use visual and verbal rhetoric to communicate with our audience too. Here's your assignment: create an ad in response to the one you're analyzing, in order to start a dialogue with the existing media, using both words and images too "talk back" both to the advertiser and to the intended audience. The idea is that if consumers were to see the two ads together, they would see a connection and a conversation that would enable them to think about the advertised idea/product/service differently than they would if they saw the existing ad alone. The ad you create should say what you're saying in your essay, but in a different medium. You can use whatever image creation software works for you, and you can alter an existing image, or you can create your own. We'll spend at least a couple of days in class working on these. Photoshop is available in the Coates lab where we meet, and it's open throughout the day. We'll upload these images to our class website, linking them to your essays, so if you'd like to include other images in your essay (or the ad you create), you can do that too. You're also welcome to link to other places on the web if that seems appropriate (especially those of you who are analyzing video ads might find a link helpful).
